Day 16 was another full day at Stanley Park featuring the Open Semis in Singles and Doubles and the Finals in Doubles. Matches were tight and hard fought. Crowds gathered to watch as the matches progressed on the main courts, sensing the drama that was unfolding.
If you have been following the NBSPO for a few years, you might recognize some of the players who have made it to the final rounds of the Open this year – many of them are players who have come through the junior system right here in BC and have since moved on to US colleges and universities on tennis scholarships. It’s been great to see them all come back “home” to play at the Open this year, show casing the level of talent that we have here in BC and giving the younger aspiring generations role models to look up to.
Today’s Men’s Singles Semi-finals featured Connor Church versus Lakshit Sood and Henry Ren versus Luka Vukovic. Connor and Henry will face off on Sunday at 2:00 pm. The Women’s Singles Semi-finals saw Reece Carter take on Alessia Cau and Gabriella Vannessa Lindgren take on Leena Bennetto. Getting the action started tomorrow at 11:00 am is the Women’s final featuring last year’s champion Reece against Leena.

Also on court today, the Family Tennis Day featured two age categories of parent-and-child doubles. First up, the parent-and-U12 child age group were out to play some tennis! It was great to see the various pairings. In some cases, the kids are the more experienced players even at age 11! Later on in the day, the older age group were on as parents played with their teens.
Everyone seemed to enjoy the tennis and the friendly competition in the compass-draw, single-set format.
Meanwhile, Roll Focus Productions arrived to start setting up the cameras and equipment for the live broadcast for Sunday featuring Canadian tennis legend and Canadian tennis commentator, Robert Bettauer.
If you can, join us in the Park tomorrow to see some great live tennis, if you can’t make it, check out the matches here in real time:
