Day 1 and the sun is shining in Stanley Park! The kids were the first to hit the courts, getting them warmed up for the next two weeks of tennis. Both Rookies and Rising Stars took to the courts over the day to show their stuff. Kids in these programs are learning the ropes of competitive play in a fun environment that guarantees lots of matches and lots of fun! Girls.Set.Match. showcased a girls’ only Tennis BC / Tennis Canada event designed to get girls into the game and keep them playing.
CTV came to the park to chat with Tournament Director, Iverson Guan, U12 player Alice Chen, National Bank representative, Haleh Alexander, and new sponsor, Ankora Retaining Wall (check out CTV on Tuesday morning to hear what they had to say).
National Bank staff were treated to a clinic with Tennis BC’s Director of High Performance, Joe Wood, and special guest, Team Canada Billie Jean King Cup Winner, Rebecca Marino. After that, it was time for the opening ceremonies at 4:00 pm with Iverson Guan, Rebecca Marino, and Jeff Bauman of Ankora Retaining Wall making remarks about the 92nd National Bank Stanley Park Open.
After that, at 5:00 pm, NTRP matches took to the court. There were many spectators in attendance, and many players making use of the new Players’ Lounge!
