Day 16 was as action packed as ever! The YMCA Community Day took place on the upper courts in the morning. It was open to anyone who wanted to try their hand at a little bit of Red Ball Mini Tennis. There were lots of first-timers of all ages and from many places in the world. It was an opportunity not only to try something new, but to make some new community connections. Once the court time was up, the mini-tennis party moved onto the grass!

Another special event on court on Saturday, Parent and Child Doubles, was a lot of fun for participants. There are two categories based on the age of the child, 12 and under, and 13 and over. It was great to see the kids out playing with mom or dad and having fun in the sun.

Open Doubles finals took place on Saturday and drew huge crowds. The bleacher were packed with tennis fans who were treated to an amazing display of doubles! Reece Carter and Alessia Cau defeated Viktoria Abanos in the Women’s final, and Riaan Dutoit and Avi Shugar defeated Manuel Calvo and Jeremy  Salvo in the Men’s final. Open Mixed Doubles finals was also on deck and Henry Ren and Reece Carter defeated Paul Ratchford and Khristina Blajkevitch.

As if the tennis  action wasn’t enough,  on Saturday, Yakib Hrabarchuk, a professional juggler from Ukraine and also a coach at  the Tennis Centre at Surrey, was on hand to teach a bit of juggling to anyone who was interested – it’s a great way to improve your hand-eye coordination – and it’s so much fun!
